Making campfires brighter in IL2 FMB to light up objects better and cover more distance

How to make the campfires EXTRA BRIGHT and cover more distance.

1. First you have to be in the Full Mission Builder (FMB)

2. You select an area of the map where you need extra light.

3. The conditions should be set for night time after 20:00 and the screen should be pretty dark.

4. Zoom down into the 3D mode in the FMB to where you have appx. six (6) KM blocks showing on a 1024 x 768 screen. You can be further zoomed out, but this takes a little tweaking. The six blocks does work.

5. Place a campfire directly on the crossing of the larger lines. Then just move the campfire around and you'll see the brightness and distance of light from the campfire decrease or increase accordingly.

You can place large numbers of campfires in such fashion around or on corners at airbases and it will make the bases more vibrant at night. You can place large numbers of the campfires in such fashion and really light up and area. It does seem there may be some restriction on how many you can place in close proximity of each other. I have run the extra bright campfires all along a coastline.

I've also used these brighter campfires to "point the way" to target areas. It's like having assistance from ground troops. I will normally put up a few brighter campfires for night time pre-approach views. It really helps when you're not using the In-flight maps or Autopilot to hit the spot.

've also noticed it doesn't work all over every map.

Example

I was working with the Kuban map and could brighten the lights on most of the Crimea/Western side, but when I crossed the channel I couldn't light the shoreline of the Kuban site. Mockery lil' problem here.

I could however get the campfires to perk up if I moved them a little further inland.

SO...I'm thinking this may just be some kind of anomalie. Also, I know it seems to have some correlation between having large numbers of campfires in close areas. I noticed I could get about 15 campfires on 15 corners contiguous to each other and the whole area was bright. When I added more campfires about this area the campfires didn't brighten their respective area. So, I moved some campfires from the bottom of the large area and place them on the corners of the boxes above the large area. The campfires then brighten the areas above the large area. Rolling

Regardless, we can use it if it works or not if it doesn't Rolling I think if there is a logical pattern for this campfire extra bright thingy it'll become evident how to use it over time.
